When I look at this painting I get the sense that Kimberly is sitting in a pose that is almost royal, like an Egyption Pharaoh. Egyptian art always shows the face in profile, and the light casts such that her face appears to be in profile, even though it isn't. She sits in this formal, elevated luxury in the comfort of her own home, needing only a colorful, comfortable blanket to lounge upon. This says something, I think, about how we can be pharaohs in our own home, with very simple comforts.
